BLURB:
Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.
I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.
I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out… and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.
But I reassure myself: the Winchesters don’t know who I really am.
MY THOUGHTS:
At first, I was kinda nervous ’cause it started a bit slow, and Nina Winchester was really getting on my nerves. I was like, “Oh no, BOOKTOK fooled me again!” Honestly, the whole time I was reading it, I was thinking, “Man, if I was Millie, I’d probably be like, ‘Nina, let’s just go outside real quick and get this over with, ’cause turns out I don’t need the money after all.'” She was just so mean to Millie. Maybe I’m a bit toxic, but because of how Nina was treating Millie, I really wanted Millie to get back at her by sleeping with Andy or something. I don’t think I could have handled an entire book with Nina Winchester’s behavior, to be honest. But then, it got good. Not just good, but REALLY GOOD. It went from a three-star read to a five-star read just like that. I absolutely loved it! This is my first Frieda Mcfadden read, and let me tell you, it totally exceeded my expectations. The twists and turns, the story being told from Millie’s perspective and then from Nina’s perspective, it was just so well done. I was rooting for Millie! I just had to finish the book. I read this book within two days on kindle unlimited, and now that I’ve finished it, it all make’s so much sense. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series.
