BLURB:
It’s been months since her dreams of forever were brutally shattered. Seven long months since her husband and soulmate, Lew, died in her arms, leaving her to carry on. Alone. And Davina Klein-Roberts still isn’t sure how to move forward.
To escape her anguish, Davina throws everything into work, pushing Golden Oil Co., her self-built skin care line, to become a viral success. Now she’s poised to clinch a major endorsement deal too. But it’s bittersweet without Lew by her side.
A meeting with Deke Bishop, the hot NBA star she’s courting for her brand, leaves Davina flustered. With his dimpled smile and warm handshake, Deke’s a natural pitchman. And he’s clearly interested―not only in her lotions.
Davina soon discovers that Deke’s more than just another player and carries his own pain. But as her feelings for him grow, so does her guilt. Will the pain of a future already lost keep her from embracing hope for a new one?
MY THOUGHTS:
Got damnit, this book was good. I feel like I went through every single stage of grief with Davina while reading this. One minute, I was sobbing into my pillow, then laughing, then blushing, then crying again. It was a whole emotional rollercoaster, and I willingly strapped myself in for the ride.
This is a beautiful story of healing and learning to love again. Davina and Deke together were everything my heart needed and more. Their love felt raw, real, and earned. I was so invested in this story that I could not come up for air. One minute, I was reading it on my iPad mini via Kindle Unlimited, and the next, I had the physical copy from the library in my hands. Rotating between the two mediums like my life depended on it.
And let’s talk about that scene—if you know, you know. When Gloria walked into Davina’s office, and Deke was still on the phone, hearing every single word? That scene broke me. Like, I just had to set the book down and breathe for a second. The weight of that moment hit so hard.
Now, I have to admit, I understood Davina’s hesitancy in moving forward with someone new after losing her husband. Truly, I did. But y’all… spoiler alert… when she walked away from Deke? If you read it, you know exactly what moment I’m talking about. I was sitting there like, Davina, please don’t piss me off right now. Deke just wanted to love up on our girl! He was patient, and his patience was beautiful. But man, she had me stressed.
Despite that, this book is an easy 10/10 stars for me. I loved it so much. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it. Just do yourself a favor and grab a box of tissues first.
My Favorite Quote:
“If only she knew I’d give her the world if she let me.”
💛 And before I go, I just want to take a moment to send my heart to anyone who has lost someone they loved. Grief is heavy, unpredictable, and unrelenting. If you’re carrying that weight, please know you’re not alone. I see you. I’m holding space for you. And I’m sending you all the love in the world.
Happy Reading Folks.
