BLURB:
Milani Santana is the definition of beauty, brains, and undeniable strength—a woman who knows exactly what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. Despite every fiber of her being telling her that Chop is her soulmate, Milani kept her feelings on the low to protect their bond. At first, it was easy as she was focused on hitting the books and chasing her dreams. But the longer she finds herself loving a man like Chop, the more it starts to drag her down.
Now, the lines between love and pain blur, and she is left asking herself: What’s a girl to do when the man who sets her soul on fire is also the one who leaves it scorched? She deserves more, but will she ever get everything she’s been holding out for?
Demetri “Chop” Washington is the living embodiment of a hood rich millionaire—young, untouchable, and unapologetically free. In his realm, every glance commands respect and every move sparks envy. Women fall hard for his magnetic charm, ready to risk it all just to feel his heat, while men either bow in admiration or step back in fear. He is a renegade who plays by his own rules, untethered and untamed.
Even though Milani’s heart beats solely for him, Chop clings to his player ways, knowing their bond is forged in unbreakable loyalty. But when her burning desire for more starts to shatter his carefully constructed world, will he finally be forced to choose between his notorious freedom or the undeniable pull of true love?
MY THOUGHTS:
This book said, ‘Let me go ahead and ruin your whole schedule today.’ And succeeded. Okay, listen. I don’t know what I thought I was walking into when I cracked open You, The One by Jda J…but I was NOT ready. I read this book in a single day (inhaled it like it was air and I’d been holding my breath). I picked it up, thinking I’d read a few chapters and ease into it (lies). I straight-up devoured it. It was giving everything. Drama? Yup. Spice? Absolutely. Characters that make you want to scream and swoon in the same breath? Check and check. From the first chapter I knew I was in trouble, good trouble, but still.
This book had me so deep, I didn’t even blink when I got to the cliffhanger. I just added the second book to my Kindle App, like I was born for this life. Thank God I started this series after more books were already out because whewww, if I had to wait? I would’ve been camped out in Jda J’s inbox like, “Ma’am…please.” And let me just say, this wasn’t one of those jarring, rip-the-rug-out cliffhangers. It was chef’s kiss perfectly placed. It left me hungry, but satisfied, you know?
Now we need to talk about the writing style because Jda J? She did THAT. The fourth wall breaks? ICONIC. I was cackling when a character just popped in like, “Where are my manners? I’m Chop…” LIKE SIR, YES, PLEASE TELL ME MORE. It felt like I was in the story with them, not just reading it.The way she writes feels like a conversation with a friend. And those multiple POVs? Not one was boring. Not a single perspective made me want to skip ahead. You know how rare that is? I was locked in with every character. Every character had something to say, and I wanted to hear all of it. Even when Candy was getting on my nerves (girl… please), I was still tuned in.
Lani? Lani is the blueprint. A certified boss. And when she met Duke? Ohhh the way my eyebrows hit my hairline. CHOP fumbled, and watching her glow up and navigate it all had me grinning like a proud cousin. Let me be real with y’all: DUKE is absolutely on my book bae list now. Like… permanently. No questions asked. Jda J, welcome to my favorite authors list, babe. You’ve earned a spot and then some. I’m excited to see what books will be next for you. I’m always rooting for indie authors, but when they deliver like this? They don’t just eat they devour, okay? So if you’re looking for a binge-worthy, no-skips, heart-thumping, character-driven series with Black love, realness, and spice? Grab You, The One and The Two ASAP. Your weekend plans are officially booked.
Happy reading, y’all. I’m off to go see what happens next.
