Happy World Book Day! World Book Day is a great way to celebrate and promote a love of literature! What books have you been reading lately? I honestly read more baby books than books for myself these days. I have a stack of unread books to read. I’m currently reading The Midnight Library by Matt Haig and let me just say, this is an amazing book.
I’ve been reading to Nova since she was in the womb. If you are looking for ways to bond with your baby in utero, then reading is one of them. Your baby will be able to hear your voice. You can rub your bump and relieve some stress when reading to your baby.
I even read books to her while she was in the NICU. She was only in the NICU for a week but at that time I really didn’t know how long she would be there so I decided to bring in some books to sit and read with her while she was there. Having your child in the NICU is already a horrible feeling, I mean, you have to go home without your baby, but atleast I had the time to hold her and read to her while she was there to continue bonding with her.
It’s really important that I get her involved in reading at a young age and to allow her the space to let her imagination, her creativity, run wild. She now knows what it means when I grab a book from her book cart. She now knows how to turn the pages herself. You can see the excitement in her little brown eyes.
I was known as the new girl in Middle School that sat by the tree reading books. That little girl still sits inside of me. Before I started working in Corporate America, I used to read several books per week! I also studied in English at Uni but after graduating, I stopped picking up books. I found myself reading books in college that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy reading but HAD to read. Because of this, I lost interest in books. I am slowly getting back to reading more and writing more now.
I love going to my local library and highly recommend you check out yours. When the pandemic hit, I was a little upset that I couldn’t go there to explore it. My library has finally reopened with restrictions ofcourse, but I’m glad that I am able to stop there on my way home from work to pick up a book for my daughter and I.
So how do you plan on celebrating this day? I plan on sitting out on my lunch break today to read a book. I plan on sitting with my daughter tonight and continuing our reading routine. I also have been writing more too! My second book, a novella, will be out this summer.
Happy Reading Folks!
