This has been a whirlwind year ya’ll! If you’ve been following my journey you’d know that this one that I am on, is not for the weak. I am incredibly grateful to be on this journey and experience every transition but it does require a lot of inner work. I am finally arriving at a place where I am truly ready to sit within myself and get back to doing things that I love to do. It’s kind of hard when you are mommying and all. I am managing. I am balancing. I am learning. Here are a few ways that I am nuturing myself this holiday season and will continue to do so throughout 2022.
“Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone, we can be with others without using them as a means of escape.”
Bell Hooks”
Prayer
Spirituality has become a major part of my life. I am taking the time to sit with myself, to journal, and to connect with God.
Learning Something new
Whether it is picking up a new self help book, fiction book, or taking a course of some sorts. I’ve been really eager to learn in this new season of my life and I want to enjoy exploring avenues that I enjoy whether it is, taking a course in project management, a course on blogging, a beauty course, or anything related to Human Resources, because, outside of this blog, I am still an HR Professional on paper.
Listening to Podcasts
I love me a good podcast. I honestly enjoy having a podcast on while driving and or while working instead of having the radio on. Something about listening to a dope conversation and the sounds of someone’s voice relaxes me, especially when they have the right podcast voice. You know those memes and Tik Toks about women that listen to True Crime Podcasts? I am one of those women. I am currently hooked on “Black Girl Gone” and “True Crime Couple”. If you know of any other podcasts, please do let me know. I am open to listening!
Dancing My Way Through Fitness
I discovered “Naughty Girl Fitness” on Tik Tok and I downloaded the app. The app is only $11.50 per month and it is so worth it. The workouts are hard as hell and will have you drenched in sweat 10 minutes into the workout, but it’s sexy! I feel sexy and confident. The routines are fun and will surely bring out your inner Megan Thee Stallion and/or Beyonce. Though I wouldn’t mind losing this mommy pouch that I have, I am okay with getting my body up and moving a couple of times out the week. It’s progress.
Pampering Myself
Due to postpartum depression, it took me a whole year to be able to really get into taking care of my physical self and not just my mental. PPD is a motherfucker. I am finally at the point where I am thoroughly enjoying taking care of my skin, buying new skincare items, using all of those items up and replacing them with something new. My skin has benefited tremendously. I also DYED MY HAIR BURGUNDY because I am ready to start a new chapter of my life. My edges are FINALLY growing back and I am FINALLY feeling okay with myself. Like I said, it’s progress.
Pampering myself also means that I am making sure that I take my vitamins, drink more water, occasionally detox and eat clean foods.
Connecting With Other Women
I’ve met some pretty amazing women this year who are also on this PPD journey. We’ve chatted about PPD on zoom and have poured into eachother. It’s amazing who you can connect with . I am truly appreciative of all of these womens.
Therapy
Yes I am still in therapy. When I really need a good session I will call my Therapist and tell her we need to schedule something ASAP. I absolutely love my therapist and I plan on sticking with her. She has gotten me through the darkest times of my life this year.
It’s all about taking the steps to a better you. Like I said, it’s taking me a long time to get back into the swing of things but I am getting there at the right pace. Everyone’s journey is different and I am soaking up every moment of the journey that I am.
Wishing You All A Joyful Happy Holiday Season!
